The open-jar symbol answers a different question from a batch code: how long the product may be used after it is opened, where that marking applies.
For example, 12M means a 12-month period after first opening, not twelve months from the purchase date and not a manufacture date. Keep a simple opening note if that information will matter later.
EU cosmetic labelling rules use the PAO symbol for applicable products with a minimum durability of more than 30 months, with exceptions where the concept is not relevant. Do not assume that every product must have the symbol. See the EU rule →
