Batch codes are short, which makes a single lost character matter. Copy what is printed before trying to interpret what you think it means.
Use the product or carton in front of you, retain leading zeroes, and keep letters and digits in the order printed. If a character is unclear, check the other package surface rather than silently replacing it with a similar-looking one.
The brand is part of the input, not a cosmetic label on the result. A correct string paired with the wrong brand is not a valid check.
